{No Root} Increase Android Sound Volume to 200% of Videos & Audio

Hey Mates

Today I'm gonna show you a method to double Increase Sound Volume of Video & Audio Tracks on Android, i.e. to 200%, without root required on your Phone.

This method only works for Videos & Audios. This is not a method to increase your Ringtone/Notification Tone Volume.
But this method may probably work for all Android Devices (Phones & Tablets).

I'll be using the app, MX Player, one of the best & most popular Video Playing App on Android. If you want, here's my personal experience review on MX Player for Android:

Note: 1. I'll also give you a way to play Audio Files like .wma or .mp3 with MX Player.
2. I may not be responsible for any damage.
But Don't worry it is currently working properly for me. It may also work well for you.

PRE-REQUISITES

So there are some Pre-requirements, for using this method. They'll be the Audio/Video Tracks, whose volume you wanna increase & MX Player.

I've already given link to my personal experience review on MX Player, above. Here's the Android Market/ Google Play Store Link to MX Player (FREE Ad-supported) for Android:

THE METHOD

Having 200% Sound Volume, in MX Player, works only with S/W (Software) & H/W+ (Hardware +) decoders.
But First of all, before learning about changing decoders, we'll talk about enabling 200% Volume:

1. In the MX Player Main Menu, Press the "Options" Button.

2. Then Go-to "Settings" & then the "Player" Option.
3. In the "Player" Sections, tick the "Volume Boost" Option.

Here's the screenshot of Option, where you'll see "Volume Boost" Setting:

This will enable the ability to have 200% Volume on whatever you play. To do it, simply increase the volume & 15, there'll be a different colored line (probably white), that'll carry on to 30.

Remember, only S/W or H/W +  decoders are supported for this feature.

Note: MX Player requires you to choose the setting to enable Volume Boost for Audio files (not videos) separately. To do this, go-to "Settings", choose "Audio" & then "Volume boost", to enable it for Audio files also.

I've discussed a good deal about this in the post link (Personal Experience review of MX Player), that I've given on the top.
So if you wanna learn about MX Player Decoders, see that post.

Here are some ways to change & set default S/W or H/W+ decoders:

To choose Required Decoder

To select a decoder, while playing a video, there'll be a small icon, saying "H/W" or "S/W" or "H/W+". Simply Tap on that & select the decoder you want.

Note: If you don't get "H/W+" decoder option, upgrade the App & then:

A. Press the "Options" Button in Main Menu.
B. Tap the "Settings" Option.
C. Go-to "Decoder" & Check "Use H/W+ Decoder".

To SET Default Decoder for Playing Videos

By Default, Hardware Decoder, will be your Default Decoder.

To set "H/W+" Decoder as default:

A. Press the "Options" Button in Main Menu.
B. Tap the "Settings" Option.
C. Go-to "Decoder" & Check "Use H/W+ Decoder" and "Use H/W+ Decoder (local)".

To set "S/W" Decoder as default:

A. Press the "Options" Button in Main Menu.
B. Tap the "Settings" Option.
C. Go-to "Decoder" & Check "Use S/W Decoder (local)".

To set "H/W" Decoder as default:

Un-check Both Local Options mentioned above.

PLAYING AUDIO FILES WITH MX PLAYER

Now to Play Audio Files with MX Player for Android, refer to the following post of mine:

Note: MX Player now supports playing both Videos & Audios in its interface. So the above link has been updated with a better method on 23/5/2014, on merryquest.

That's it! I hope you liked the above tutorial.

    1. Hey

Here are the steps to set Software Decoder as default:

      1. After opening MX Player, choose "Options" button on your phone or MX Player. Select "Settings".
      2. Click on "Decoder".
      3. Now under "Software decoder", choose "S/W decoder (local)".

Your default decoder should now be Software. :)

    1. Hi!

There are two basic requirements for doubling the volume in MX Player:

      1. Volume boost enabled in settings.
      2. Playing the Audio/Video file in "HW+" or "SW" mode. Simply "HW" mode won't increase the volume above 15.

*Also as a precaution (sort of!), use the Volume buttons on your device to increase volume, not the Touchscreen.

I hope after this, your device's media volume in MX Player increases to 200% max. :)

  5. Hehe, managed to get this to work on my Note 4. It shows volume up to 30. Although it doesn't quite double the sound level there is a big increase and quite distortion free. Thanks man ;)
