Hey mates
Today, I'd like to talk about a fabulous feature, which I found in Norton Internet Security: SMART FIREWALL, which is a very good system for Firewall management.
Note 1: The settings, given here, are for Norton Internet Security 21.0.2.1. You might have a different version or even a different Norton Product, like Norton 360 having Smart Firewall feature.
So see & observe the settings, given here. The exact settings in your version should be "near to" the settings given here. A little examination of your Norton Product, should be enough.
So, you might have a Program which you don't want, should access the Internet. The possible reasons could be the fact that the program might use a little too much Internet Bandwidth, which is expensive isn't it? And you don't want it to do so. OR There could be any other reason.
THE FEATURE
Anyhow, Norton Internet Security & thus Norton 360 (Norton 360 is the all-in-one Norton Protection) come with a very nice feature, called Smart Firewall. I'm not sure about Norton Antivirus Product.
Firewall is a like a wall, which protects the system from Threats coming through Network Connections, like the Internet.
The Smart Firewall takes over Windows (or your Operating System's) Firewall system, as soon as Norton Internet Security is installed.Smart Firewall, as the name suggests, is a Smart system to handle Firewall.
One of the most significant features of this Smart Firewall, which I found very useful, is the "PROGRAM RULES" setting, allowing the user to Block Internet Connection for any Program/File (generally .exe), for the better use of the system.
SETTINGS
So now that we know about what we're gonna do (Blocking Internet Connection for a particular program), let's see how:
I'll be mentioning Settings for Norton Internet Security 21.0.2.1. The settings in your Product might be near to it.
1. Open Norton Internet Security Control Center.
2. In it, Click on "Settings".
3. Choose "Network" Tab Element (in Horizontal Row).
4. Now, Click on Smart Firewall Vertical Option.
5. Right In front of "Program Rules" Option, that appears now, click on "Configure".
6. Now, you should be able to see some basic Programs in the list.
7. Right ahead of the Program you need to Edit Settings for, there'll be a Drop-Down Menu saying "Auto", "Block", Allow" or "Custom".
Choose the one you prefer & Apply.
The Program, marked, with "Block" Setting, should not be able to access the Internet now.
8. You can also add another Program (not in the list). To Browse it, use the "Add" option.
This feature is really one of the reasons for "Why I like Norton so much."
Note 2: Please be careful while changing these settings, because Changes in these Settings for some internal system files can cause Threats too! & I may not be responsible for any damage.
So I hope that the above feature & tutorial, was liked by you.
Do comment with your queries & reviews about the above feature.
