(Secret Way) Best Handbrake HD video-encoding settings, preserve video-quality & compress memory required

Hola Guys

Today I'm giving a very necessary rare post, about having best handbrake (a video editing & encoding software), which will help to compress your high quality videos retaining a superb quality & giving it only a small memory space.

Wouldn't it be nice to get your 4 GB(giga-bytes) HD video to about 1 GB, keeping  the quality, almost same (almost!), in output mp4 or mkv formats.

Inputs I think, can be any format.

Note: This is a tutorial for starters (beginners). The users mentioned, might use a lot better ways, but it always has to start with the first step! isn't it?

This method is very similar to the methods used by known encoders like  sC0rp (scorp), YIFY, hon3y, KiNGOFBLURAY, MiLLENiUM, NIKOo, JUSTiCE, TODE, FANTA, Ganool, Bokutox (YIFY), MAXSPEED etc.
Although I guess they use another software, Megui which is more complex.

PRE-REQUISITES

So the pre-requirements, for getting your HD & HQ videos, converted to smaller size, you'll need:

1. The latest Handbrake software, which can be downloaded from its official website:

http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Choose your operating system (O.S.) Windows, Macintosh etc.& then install it.

2. A good speed pc :- It takes about an hour to encode a video, on a 3.1 Giga-Hertz (GHz). I know it's long but when you'll get the result, you'll be amazed.

THE SETTINGS

So first up, browse your hd video of bigger size, through the source option, Then:

1. Go-to video tab, select:

Codec- h.264 (x264)
Framerate- 23.976
Quality- select average bit-rate
numbers to be filled should be between 700-900, according to motion in movie, like for action it's 900.
Also select 2-pass & turbo-first pass.

See the settings to do, from the screenshot above.

2. Go-to Audio tab & select audio tracks & quality, it should be about 128 Kbps, to get optimum quality.

3. Now got-to Advanced tab. Choose the following:

For ADVANCED TAB SETTINGS see the text given in orange color, on the following forum's first post, given by strobus. There's a screenshot also available there:

Note 1: You can also save your settings by saving the preset.

Note 2: You can also edit the settings, according to your own personalisation, to get the your required result.

Note 3: Also you can edit other tabs like Subtitles, Video Filters, Chapters etc. to edit your video.

So that's it, I hope you liked the tutorial.

  1. Too bad these guys have no clue what they are talking about. The encoder settings is not really a brainer, the pre-filters used are what grants great quality at low bitrates, and those are not mentioned so let me start with one. For MPEG-2 sources (DVDs), look into the use of the QTGMC filter and learn it! However, this you will not be able to use with Handbrake. Good alternatives are MeGui and Staxrip (I prefer the latter).

    1. First up, thanks for your healthy criticism "but I guess, it's a little less than Healthy!", still it has helped this Handbrake Tutorial grow, as this post has now been updated (for good) to be for starters(beginners). A note has been added.

Also, the Information in your comment was helpful.

Well you must have a lot more knowledge about encoding, so why not share it with others. Write a blog, create a video or something, it would help others a lot!

  2. Sorry to say this wasn't helpful in the slightest. It just tells you how to lower the bit rate of files. If you were actually concerned about retaining quality, you would have mentioned filters and you wouldn't have just said "Although I guess they use another software, MeGUI which is more complex.". You would have expanded on that and actually told people how you go about using MeGUI. Judging by this piece, you're new to encoding.

    1. Hello Sir/Mam

      Thanks for your opinion.

It has already been said that "This is a tutorial for starters (beginners). The users mentioned, might use a lot better ways, but it always has to start with the first step! isn't it?"

I THINK YOU'VE ALREADY TAKEN THE FIRST STEP (BEFORE READING THIS POST). SO THIS ARTICLE MIGHT JUST BE A REVISION FOR YOU, WHICH IS NOT FOR SOME OTHERS.

About MeGui- I haven't tried it so far (just heard about it) & due to some unavoidable reasons, I can't currently do it. Maybe, when I try it in future, I'll post about it, but I cannot assure you about that.

      Have a wonderful day!
